This story made the rounds last week: young man and woman were driving Black Bear Pass, he got out to direct someone else and the parking brake failed (or wasn’t engaged).

This is dashcam video from someone else who was driving below. Just amazing to watch the Jeep come falling through.

Kinja'd!!!

The woman was ejected prior to this. She was in serious condition, don’t know current status, but there’s a gofundme link.

The Jeep comes tumbling down around 3:15.

I had seen that this had happened but not this view. Geez, that looks terrible. The hit the jeep took from the road was hard.

I can’t image being the guy that was driving the red Jeep. Watching your Jeep roll away with someone inside it. Probably his wife or girlfriend.

That is absolutely terrifying. Can't imagine what would have happened had someone still been in it.

Well my truck came with two wheel chocks in the lower compartment, perhaps I will use them. I think I’m going to get an push button electric E brake on the truck.

This is part of the last update on the GoFundMe.

“10/18/2020 Suzie is such an amazing strong woman. She is working daily on her progress. She is now able to sit up in her in her wheelchair, and was outside a couple days ago to see her beloved black lab puppy Decker. She is such a fighter. Please continue to keep her in your prayers.”

And here is the link to the GoFundMe in case anyone wants to donate or read any future updates.

This vid raises a lot of questions for me. He got out of the jeep to help guide somebody else? Guide them around what? That part of the road above, where the Jeep’s rolling from, doesn’t have any obstacles. The hairpin above the falls is still way, way, ahead of the driver/cam, and the other hairpin is behind them. Assuming the Jeep rolled 50 or so feet before leaving the road, they would still be about 300 or 400 feet from the nearest part of the road where somebody would want/need a spotter.

So how long until we hear she’s suing him?

As I understand it, he tried to grab onto it to stop it from rolling away, and was thrown off the cliff as well.

I’m impressed you know the road that well. I have no clue.

I’ve heard that suing a friend after an accident is a common hack for dealing with insurance companies, so that might happen no matter how this started.

Further proof that insurance companies are pure evil, they created a system where taking frivolous legal action against your friends to guarantee your own fair treatment from an insurance company is a thing .

That’s some scary shit. I’ve watched a Jeep roll down a hill with someone inside, it turns your brain pretty numb.

If I’m seeing things right, they (the black jeep) were about here when the red jeep rolls down in front of them. If you look directly uphill (ie to the right in the image) , there aren’t really any obstacles.

Kinja'd!!!

I think there might be a bit of a game of telephone going on regarding the details though, because there are a few subtly different accounts of what happened just before. The video just made me question where exactly the vehicle left the road.

I once rolled backwards m ostly out of control while attempting a hill climb, and that was scary enough. I can’t imagine even a mild rollover.

If there was a group of vehicles , I could see someone near the front getting out to check on what was going on back at the sharp turn, but I can’t get a good sense of distance from that view.
